More than 700 Indian Catholics met in Baltimore, Maryland, this past week for the 68th annual Tekakwitha Conference.
The conference is named for Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, a Mohawk woman who lived in the 1600s.
She is credited with several miracles and has been beatified and is a candidate for sainthood.
Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and the first Indian archbishop in the U.S., urged conference attendees to follow in Kateri's footsteps. He urged Indian Catholics to unite and support sainthood for Kateri.
Next year's conference will be held in Edmonton, Alberta, in Canada.
