Hoop Dance contest draws thousands to Heard


More than 10,000 people attended the 17th-annual World Championship Hoop Dance Contest at the Heard Museum in Phoenix this weekend.

Competitors from tribes in the United States and Canada took part in the event. Dallas M. Arcand won first in the adult division. Daniel Tramper. won the senior division contest. Charles Denny took top teen honors and Tyrese Jensen came in first for youth.

"It's a good feeling keeping the culture alive," Waskwane Stonefish, from Ontario, Canada, told The Arizona Republic. Stonefish was defending her world title in the youth division and came in second this year.
