The Delaware Tribe of Oklahoma plans to buy 17 acres for a commercial development project.

The land is located in the city of Dewey. The city agreed to sell to the tribe for $175,000.

The tribe envisions a travel plaza, restaurant, retail space and a hotel. The project will be completed in four phases.

The tribe lost its federal recognition due to a court case with the Cherokee Nation. The tribes have been trying to work out on an agreement but the proposed legislation has been controversial.
