Two top aides to Rep. John Doolittle (R-California), who is under investigation for his ties to Jack Abramoff, have been subpoenaed by a grand jury.
Chief of staff Ron Rogers and deputy chief of staff Dan Blankenburg will testify later this week. They are the latest in a series of aides and former aides to Doolittle who are providing information to federal prosecutors.
Doolittle has denied any wrongdoing despite defending Abramoff's work for tribal clients. He inserted comments into the Congressional Record that praised the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. His wife, Julia, used to do consulting work for Abramoff.
Doolittle's former legislative director, Kevin Ring, also worked for Abramoff. Ring quit his lobbying job on the same day FBI agents raided Doolittle's home in northern Virginia.
