Rep. John Doolittle (R-California) and his wife, Julie, went on a talk radio show on Wednesday and accused the Department of Justice of intimidation.
Doolittle said he was asked to plead guilty to certain crimes for his dealings with convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff. When he refused, the FBI raided his home in northern Virginia, he said.
"And in our mind, as a result of my refusing to admit to a crime that I did not commit, the government searched our home in what we believe was little more than an attempt to intimidate and pressure us," Doolittle said on KFBK KFBK radio.
Julia Doolittle defended her dealings with her husband and Abramoff. She ran a company that was took a percentage of every campaign contribution her husband received and she did some consulting work for Abramoff.
"This isn't a fly-by-night business I am involved in," she said. "It's real."
