Violet Ruth Super, a member of the Karuk Tribe of California, died in house fire on November 29.
The fire occurred just five days before Super's 89th birthday. She was born on her family's allotment on December 3, 1917.

Known in the tribe as Auntie Vi, Super was a fluent speaker of Karuk. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to the Karuk Language Restoration Committee, at KLRC, P.O. Box 1016, Happy Camp, CA 96039.
