The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe of Colorado has been awarded a $17.6 million contract by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.
The Weeminuche Construction Authority will build a 2.1-mile pipeline for the Animas-La Plata Project, which settled the water rights of the Ute tribes. The pipeline will feed water to Lake Nighthorse, named for retired Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colorado), who sponsored legislation for the project.
The A-LP project is expected to cost $552 million. The major component is a 157-feet high dam.
