Mescalero Apache candidate requests recount

Oliver Enjady, a member of Mescalero Apache Nation of New Mexico, has requested a recount of the tribe's election after losing his bid for another term on the council by just three votes.

Enjady, an artist and former vice president of the tribe, filed the request after he said the ballot tallies didn't add up. He received notification on Tuesday that the tribe would conduct the recount.

Enjady currently sits on the council but would be forced off if the election results stand. He received three fewer votes than the lowest vote-getter.
