The Cherokee Nation council approved a gradual increase to the minimum wage.
The wage will be raised to $7.50 per hour after January 1, 2007. By 2008, it will be increased to $9 per hour.
The council previously approved an increase but it was vetoed by Chief Chad Smith, who called for a phased-in wage hike.
