Robert Grey Eagle, the longtime attorney for the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, died on Saturday after suffering a heart attack. He was 53.
Grey Eagle was born on the Pine Ridge Reservation. He was raised on Oklahoma and California but returned home to finish school.
After getting a law degree from the University of New Mexico, he helped his tribe with the Black Hills land claim. He served as attorney for various tribal departments and as judge for his tribe and several others in South Dakota and Minnesota.
