A group of people claiming to Tuscarora was forced to leave the site of a Tuscarora War battle after being threatened with trespassing charges.
The group's protest at Fort Neheroka wasn't backed by the recognized Tuscarora Nation of New York or the Tuscarora Tribe in North Carolina. A clan mother said the group has been causing trouble over the years.
The latest dispute comes over the excavation of Fort Neheroka, the last battle of the Tuscarora War. The group wants East Carolina University to stop removing artifacts and remains from the site.
ECU has been working with the Tuscarora Nation and the Tuscarora Tribe on the excavation.
