California tribes pour more money into campaigns

California tribes are pouring even more money into several races through their new political committee.

Team 2006 was formed by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, the Pechanga Band of Luiseo Indians, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, the Soboba Band of Luiseo Indians and the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians. The tribes initially donated more than $3 million to the committee.

The Agua Caliente Band and the Pechanga Band have each contributed an additional $2 million. They had previously donated $850,000 and $800,000, respectively.

The money has been used to support several Republicans and at least two Democrats. It comes as the tribes seek legislative approval for their gaming compacts.
