The chairman of the Hopi Tribe of Arizona has been officially kicked out of office.
Ivan Sidney had been suspended following an alcohol-related incident off the reservation. Police in Winislow say they found him intoxicated and unable to walk at a hotel. His blood alcohol level was later measured at 0.311, nearly four times the state's legal limit.
Sidney blamed the incident on political opponents and suggest border town racism played a role. But the tribal council voted 17-3 on Monday night to terminate him.
Sidney admits he drank two beer the night in question, after finding out that his battle against cancer was successful. He said he took other medications that he believes may have contributed to his high blood alcohol level.
Sidney wouldn't agree he has an alcohol problem. He said he doesn't drink every day.
