Non-Indian convicted in Red Lake Nation court

A non-Indian was convicted on Red Lake Nation court for trespassing.

Jerry Mueller says he accidentally wandered onto Red Lake waters. His boat and fishing gear were seized by tribal police.

Mueller's son-in-law, Jonathan Hempstead, was also involved. He pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay $500 in fines and write a letter of apology.

Mueller is going to appeal his conviction, which turned into a campaign issue for state Repubclians who questioned the Red Lake Nation's sovereignty.
