The Tonto Apache Tribe of Arizona is lending a Native theme to an upcoming race.
The tribe's casino is co-sponsoring the 006 Rim Country Challenge half-marathon and 5K race in Payson on October 28. The Habitat for Humanity is organizing the race.
A Tonto Apache princess will lead the runners on horseback. The tribe is supplying water baskets and Native art as prizes for race winners.
The night before the race, a "carb dinner" will feature dancers from the White Mountain Apache Tribe.
