Records released by a former client of Jack Abramoff show contacts between the convicted lobbyist and Rep. Richard Pombo (R-California).
Pombo, the chairman of the House Resources Committee, has met Abramoff. But he says the convicted felon "never lobbied me on anything" and "never set foot in my office."
Billings records from the Northern Mariana Islands, a former Abramoff client, indicate some form of contact, however. The Islands, a U.S. commonwealth, fall under Pombo's jurisdiction.
Abramoff billed the Islands for two contacts with Pombo on September 10, 1996, and November 21, 1996. Pombo was a junior member of the committee at the time.
The records also show William Dennis Stephens, a former Pombo aide who went to work for Abramoff, had at least 11 other contacts with either Pombo or his staff.
