Shawn Hawk, a member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, is one of the few Native Americans in the boxing sport.
Known in the ring as "The Sioux Warrior," Hawk was recently signed by Sycuan Ringside Promotions, the boxing club of the Sycuan Band of Kumeyaay Indians. The tribe has scheduled his first fight tonight at Camp Pendleton.
Hawk, 22, got his career off the ground with the help of $5,000 from his tribe. He was "discovered" by Sycuan at a fight on the Coeur d'Alene Reservation in Idaho.
