The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians shut down its hotel, the school, its offices and some of its businesses after a gasoline link contaminated the water supply.
An estimated 1,500 families and 300 businesses on the reservation are affected by the shortage. Residents and visitors were told not to drink, bathe or cook with the water.
The casino remained opened as the tribe tested the water system. If damage is found, water restrictions could extend through Saturday.
