Native teen safe house faulted in another report

A new report Saskatchewan's children's advocate says operators of a safe house in Regina failed to protect Native teens.

Advocate Marvin Bernstein said the Oyate House should be shut down unless it can make improvements in the next two months. He said the operators failed to protect Native teens from sexual exploitation and failed to stop drugs and dangerous items from entering the house.

The Oyate House is operated by the File Hills-Qu'appelle Tribal Council. It has received more than $1 million from the Saskatchewan government over the past three years.

Saskatchewan's provincial auditor criticized the Oyate House in a report this past June.
