An adult member of the Muckleshoot Tribe of Washington has been charged with second-degree manslaughter for the alcohol-related death of 13-year-old Kenneth Elkins.
Elkins, also a tribal member, died just after midnight April 16 after drinking whiskey with Leonard Wayne III and other adults on the Muckleshoot Reservation.
The boy's blood-alcohol level was 0.37 percent, nearly five times the state's legal limit.
Wayne and the other adults, including two of Wayne's sons, had purchased the liquor at a tribal store. They made no attempt to stop Kenneth from drinking, prosecutors said.
The case is being handled in King County. Washington is a Public Law 280 state.
