The chairman of the Hopi Tribe of Arizona is being investigated for an alcohol-related incident at a hotel off the reservation.

The tribal council launched the probe after police reports said Chairman Ivan Sidney was "very intoxicated and disorderly" at the hotel in Winslow. His blood alcohol level was more than three times the state's legal limit.

Some tribal members are circulating a petition to remove Sidney from office. But council member Jerry Sekayumptewa said Sidney has done nothing wrong.

"If Mr. Sidney was intoxicated on his own time in the privacy of his own room, he broke no law," Sekayumptewa said in a statement, The Arizona Daily Sun reported.
