Sycuan Band adds history to hotel's time capsule

The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation added a bit of culture to a time capsule hidden in a San Diego hotel owned by the tribe.

The time capsule was first placed in the US Grant Hotel back in 1907. It was discovered last year in an abandoned garage but Sycuan Chairman Daniel Tucker was disappointed that it didn't reflect the presence of Native people in San Diego.

So the tribe added bird songs, a basket, photos and other items to the time capsule. It was placed back into the hotel on Thursday.

The tribe bought the hotel last year for $45 million. It will reopen in October after renovations are complete.
