In a first for the state of Utah, Gov. Jon M. Huntsman Jr. (R) met with Navajo Nation leaders on Monday.
Huntsman traveled to Window Rock, Arizona, the capitol of the Navajo Nation. He met with President Joe Shirley Jr. and addressed the Navajo Nation Council.
Hunstman told council delegates that "the state is not among your deadliest enemies," The Deseret Morning News reported. He touted an Indian summit he is hosting next month.
Navajo leaders welcomed the historic event. About 7,000 Navajos live on the Utah portion of the reservation.
