The Chickasaw Nation and a Chinese automaker are going into business together.
The tribe is buying land in Ardmore to lease to Nanjing Motors. The company will build a manufacturing plant to revive the British sports car brand MG.
The land is not currently held in trust but the tribe may seek to have it placed in trust. For the Chickasaws, that's usually a quick and easy process, one that has enabled the tribe to quadruple its land base.
Most of the tribe's money comes from its gaming enterprise but the manufacturing plant is part of an effort to diversify. The tribe owns a chocolate factory, a radio station, convenience stores, travel plazas, a bank and other businesses.
