Marissa Hawley, a member of the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians, has been selected as a Gates Millennium Scholar.
Hawley, a senior at Jay High School, plans on attending Northeastern State University. "I feel I have been blessed," she told The Native American Times.
Shari Kamp, the director of the Johnson O�Malley program at Jay, nominated Hawley for the award. "She is a wonderful young lady and I look forward to seeing what the future has in store for her," Kamp said.
