Interview: Peterson Zah recruits Natives to ASU

Peterson Zah, the former chairman and president of the Navajo Nation, says he won't stop until he gets 2,000 Native American students enrolled at Arizona State University.

Zah, who serves as special adviser to the ASU president on American Indian Affairs, is more than halfway to the goal. At the beginning of the 2005 fall semester, about 1,400 Native students were enrolled at the school.

"To the best of my knowledge, ASU has more Native American students than any university in the nation," Zah says in an interview with The Arizona Republic.

Zah, 68, says he doesn't plan on retiring until his mission is complete.
