Utility won't run wastewater through sacred lands

A utility company has agreed not to discharge treated wastewater onto lands sacred to the Ak-Chin Indian Community in Arizona.

The tribe opposed Global Water's proposal to send wastewater into washes where ancestors and artifacts are located. The washes are also home to plans used in ceremonies.

The company will instead store the wastewater on site, a move that could raise costs for consumers.
