Native man undergoes second liver transplant

Richard Haury, a 52-year-old member of the Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma, underwent liver transplant surgery on Monday after his wife made a public plea for a donor.

Haury is doing well, his wife Margarita said. He needed a transplant in order to save his life. He received his first transplant five years ago.

Haury, who is also part Navajo and Sioux, was the first American Indian to play football for the University of New Mexico, according to The Redlands Daily Facts. He later coached at the former Albuquerque Indian School before joining the Albuquerque Police Department.
