Mashantucket Tribe, town propose land swap

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation has agreed to a land swap with the neighboring town of Ledyard.

The tribal council wants to swap the Clark Farm, a 102-acre site, in Ledyard. In exchange, the town would give up 76.8 acres near the tribe's reservation.

Tribal chairman Michael Thomas and Leyard Mayor Susan Mendenhall said the deal makes sense because the farm is in a prime location for the town while the tribe would gain land closer to its reservation.

The town council is considering the swap tonight and may call a public hearing.
