An officer for the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota is recovering after undergoing several surgeries for an accident on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
Howard Pretends Eagle Jr., 24, was injured on a routine patrol. His police vehicle overturned several times after he swerved to avoid a deer on the road. He suffered a head wound, facial scrapes and bruises, leg and shoulder wounds.
Fellow officers have donated leave time to Pretends Eagle, who is being treated in Denver.
