Health Canada announced a pilot project aimed at improving diabetes treatment and prevention on First Nations.

The project will ensure that Native patients will have timely access to testing, treatment, prevention and follow-up care. It's part of a $40 million investment to reduce the high rate of diabetes among Native people.

The pilot will start on 10 reserves, which haven't been chosen yet. If successful, it could be expanded throughout Canada.

Health Canada is working with the Assembly of First Nations on the project.
