The chief of police for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut wants to settle jurisdiction issues with the state and local governments.

The state has criminal jurisdiction on the reservation. Tribal police have authority over the actions of American Indians and Alaska Natives.

The state, the tribe and local police departments have cooperated on arrests but there are some legal disagreements. The state says local police can make arrests on the reservation without state or tribal involvement while the tribe says local officers need to bring in the state or the tribe
