Seven board members and employees of an elementary school on the Fort Berthold Reservation in North Dakota have been indicted embezzling more than $665,000.
The seven are accused of falsifying travel vouchers and obtaining payroll advances and bonuses from the Twin Buttes Elementary School. Some of them allegedly received money for fake meetings with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and for trips and training that never occurred.
The indictment in federal court cites a conspiracy among the seven to "take care of each other" by stealing the money. The charges came after an 18-month investigation.
