Nisqually Tribe celebrates salmon habitat

The Nisqually Tribe of Washington celebrated the return of saltwater to a vital part of the salmon habitat in the Nisqually River.

Water flowed on 140 acres of the Nisqually estuary after a dike was removed. Estuaries are rearing grounds for young salmon.

The removal of the dike is part of a large-scale restoration of salmon habitat. When the project is complete, 840 acres of the estuary will be restored.
