Lakota woman seeks donations for Cheyenne River


Rochelle Ripley is seeking donations to help children and elders on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in South Dakota.

Ripley, a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe who lives in Connecticut, founded hawkwing. She uses the nonprofit to collect educational items, clothing, books, toys and basic goods for 3,000 children and 400 elder on the reservation.

The group collects the items for an annual giveaway on the reservation, where unemployment and poverty is high.

Ripley has been helped by the Reliance House, a volunteer group in Norwich.
