A unique organization helps members of the Hopi Tribe of Arizona with home and small business loans.
The Hopi Credit Association was formed in 1952. It is the largest housing lender on the reservation but also make loans for small businesses, home improvements and other uses, The Arizona Republic reported.
The group relies on outside grants or low-cost loans to survive. The latest was a $750,000 subsidized loan from Bank of the West.
Iva Casuse obtained three loans from Hopi Credit to open an art gallery on the reservation. She had been turned down by banks off the reservation.
