By a voice vote, the House on Tuesday approved a bill to place more than 430 acres in trust for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe of Arizona.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs approved the tribe's land-into-trust application. But due to a limitation in state law regarding the sale of mineral rights, Arizona had to object.
The state now supports H.R.631. It would require the tribe to pay fair market value for any mineral interests on the land, which is contiguous to the reservation.
The Senate version of the bill is S.1291. It has been placed on the calendar but hasn't been called for a vote.
