The Navajo Nation Tax Commission is supporting legislation to raise the tribe's sales tax by 1 percent.
The tax currently stands at 3 percent. The commission says the increase could generate $4 million for public safety and judicial facilities.
The proposed bill calls for the 75 percent of tax revenues to go to Navajo chapters and 25 percent for judicial and public safety facilities.
