The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe says talks with the town of Mashpee, Massachusetts, are going well.
The tribe and the town have met twice to discuss the tribe's pending recognition. Officials from both sides hailed the talks as positive.
The tribe has received endorsements for its recognition from several communities. But Mashpee held off in order to discuss land, sovereignty and other issues.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs issued a preliminary decision in favor of the tribe this past March. A final decision is due March 2007.
