The former education director for the Fort Peck Tribes of Montana pleaded not guilty to charges of fraud and theft.
Desiree Dean Kirn Lambert is accused of defrauding the federal government through fake contracts for tribal services. Her husband, Bernard John Lambert Jr., allegedly helped write the contracts and her uncle, Raymond A. Dolezilek, served as a consultant.
Desiree Lambert is in federal custody. Her husband is wanted on an arrest warrant. Her uncle is serving time for an unrelated bribery case.
