The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe is conducting the first study of turtles on the reservation.
The survey is funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. So far, 50 turtles have been captured, marked, and released.
The goal of the survey is to understand the turtle population and prepare for their future.
The study will take three years.
