A 12-year-old Alaska Native boy from the Yup'ik village of Mountain Village died early Monday after inhaling gas fumes.
Anthony Waskey was with his two older brothers and a friend when they were huffing fumes from a gas can. He collapsed after inhaling for 15 to 20 minutes, a state trooper said.
Inhalant abuse is common in rural Alaska due to the easy availability of gas. Anthony first started huffing when he was 6 or 7, his mother said.
