The 45th annual World Eskimo-Indian Olympics kicks off today at a bigger venue in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The event is usually held at the Big Dipper Ice Area. Renovations there prompted the move to the larger Carlson Center.
Organizers are expecting more participants for the Miss WEIO Pageant and for the games themselves. The contest features traditional sports like the toe kick, the ear-weight pull and the kneel jump.
The WIEO runs through Saturday.
