The Kootenai Tribe of Idaho is seeking to intervene in a lawsuit over the operation of Libby Dam.
The lawsuit was filed by Center for Biological Diversity, an environmental group. It seeks to force the federal government to install equipment and release more water at the dam to help the endangered white sturgeon in the Kootenai River.
The tribe support saving the sturgeon but wants to join the case on the side of the federal government. The tribe is worried that releasing more water will cause flooding on the Idaho side of the Kootenai River.
