Jemez Pueblo in New Mexico broke ground on two new projects aimed at providing clean and safe water to the community.
The tribe is working with Sandia National Laboratories to test arsenic treatment systems. The goal is to find an affordable way to meet federal arsenic guidelines.
In addition, the tribe received money from the state for a solar-powered municipal water filtration system. The system is based on floating water circulators to treat wastewater.
Although the tribe is based in a rural area, it has seen its share of water issues. Up until the solar wastewater system was installed this past January, tribal members frequently dealt with dirty and water.
