Sion Wilkins, a Navajo/Lumbee college student, is teaching tennis to Native youth on reservations in Minnesota and other states.
Wilkins picked up tennis while growing up on the Navajo Nation. He soon won a scholarship to a tennis academy and began winning tournaments. As a student at University of Minnesota, he is now just one of two Native students to play at the NCAA Division I level.
After inspiring his younger brother and sister to play, Wilkins is also spreading the sport to other Native youth. He is working with the Standing Tall Tennis program and has taught on reservations in Minnesota, Arizona, New Mexico and California.
