The Inupiat Eskimo village of Nuiqsut is fighting plans by oil giant Conoco Phillips to build the longest bridge in Alaska's North Slope.
The bridge will be built over prime fishing territory. Villagers say it will deny them access to whaling grounds and hunting sites.
Conoco Phillips wants the 1,250-foot bridge to drill for more oil. The company has submitted plans to the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
