A unique project brings the symphony to students on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community in Arizona.
Six years ago, the tribe and the Phoenix Symphony started Project One Nation. As part of the program, members of the symphony come to Salt River High School to teach music lessons.
Violinist Lenore Wilkison said the experience has been difficult but very rewarding. She is working with students like Keith Sisto, who showed natural talent for the violin.
The project led to the creation of the high school's first orchestra. Some student have performed with the Phoenix Symphony as part of a free concert performed on the reservation every year.
