Tribal leaders are invited to attend a forum on energy rights-of-way being held on May 25 by the Morongo Band of Mission Indians.

The meeting is being called to discuss the tribal rights-of-way study being conducted by the Interior Department and the Energy Department. The study was inserted into federal law after lobbying by the energy industry.

Tribes and their advocates are worried that the study will hurt ongoing negotiations over rights-of-way. They are also worried the industry will try to seek authority from the Interior Department to bypass tribal consent.
