Native teens learning more about HIV/AIDS

Native youth on the Quechan Reservation in southern Arizona recently took part in a four-day seminar to learn more about HIV and AIDS.

With Native Americans suffering the third highest infection rate, Native teens said it was important to learn more about HIV/AIDS. "I always think it's somebody else," 14-year-old Janyse Collins says in an article published on Spero News, a religion-oriented site. "I never thought our Native people would do stuff to get the disease."

During the seminar, the teens learned about safe sex but since the program is religious in nature, abstinence is urged.
